A Disappointing Duty
Just a quick update. I have been given rather an unpleasant duty for this evening. Mr Miles has asked me to accompany him and Mr Forrester around Carstone late tonight. I can only presume that Mr Forrester will attempt to 'converse with spirits' or whatever it is that he does. It may sound disrespectful of me to refer to a guest of Carstone House in this way, but, considering I almost froze to death the last time I attempted a similar task, you may place me firmly in the 'sceptic' camp.
Also, the knife polisher (which is kept in the Plate Scullery) seems to have broken. The handle was loose and came off in my hand about half an hour ago. I presume that Simon did not know who to telephone for a replacement. This is understandable.

This Forrester entity sounds a rum cove to me. I remember reading about the last 'occultist' (for want of a better word) to visit Carstone, and he didn't even dress for dinner, and ended up annoying a bishop! The shame!
The Knife Polisher interests me. Is that still used to any great extent? I am showing my ignorance here, but do they even make parts for them any more?
I've just finished reading Ring for Jeeves, which features the lovely occultist Rosalinda Spottsworth, so it occurs to me you might take this Forrester to the chapel to converse with the Lady Agatha.

Reg - the knife polisher is indeed still used. We have a splendid one here. Have ordered a replacement handle and a man is coming around tomorrow afternoon to fix it. Good service too.
Susan - I am afraid that Mr Forrester could not really be described as a "lovely occultist". There doesn't even seem to be anything flamboyant about him. He is, I should imagine, only in his mid-30's. He was extremely quiet at dinner. I am going to show him around the house at 10pm (about 20 minutes from now).
