A Pint To Catch Up
Am off to the Carstone Arms in a couple of hours for a pint of their finest in the company of Llywelyn. He has promised to update me on all I have missed during my unfortunate absence. I am looking forward to it. I like the Carstone Arms; like all proper public houses, it has history to it. No fashionable name changes there! I firmly believe it is unlucky to change the name of a pub. Some use that maxim for ships. I use it for pubs. It has I am glad to say been known as 'The Carstone Arms' for as long as history records. It used to be a coaching inn, and was even used for the odd hanging on occasion in the 18th century.

Good day to you Mr Fielding and thank you for the comment on my weblog as it served to remind me to look you up once again. We too have a pub to this estate although it is know as a club and was originally for the people of the estate only, you had to be a member. Now though anyone can enter and unfortunately standards have dropped of late but I put that down more to the person running the place than the people who visit it. I’m pleased that your sister is doing better, I know from personal experience what a blow it can be for the victim and family. I’m also pleased to hear everything has been kept running smoothly whilst you were away and the rest of the staff have not run amok! I think turfing irons are quite rare these days which is one reason why I took to it when given the chance even thought it was very neglected and I didn’t have a use for it at the time. Of course there are machines that do the same job a lot quicker and easier but the turfing iron was okay for what I wanted to do with it. Maybe you could impress Mr Barton by asking if he has a turfing iron!! Bob.

Bob, I did indeed mention 'turfing irons' to Barton. His little face lit up a treat. He was most impressed that I knew what they were. Perhaps he will even allow me to walk across his immaculate lawns this summer without scowling at me now!
